The pandemic has been tough on a number of fronts, including kids’ education. For most of 2020, they were limited to virtual classes. In 2021, things are looking a bit better with the vaccination roll-out going better than expected and Loudoun County gradually reopening.

With summer drawing closer, it’s time to consider amazing in-person learning – and socializing – opportunities. We found several fun summer classes in Loudoun County that might interest your kids.

STEAM Summer Camp at SciGenius

This summer, SciGenius is offering nine camp programs focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). All of these programs incorporate experiential learning and problem-solving scenarios to truly stimulate young minds.

What’s more, SciGenius was recently named as one of the Best Summer Camps for 2021 by Northern Virginia Magazine. Registration for Summer 2021 is ongoing. SciGenius is also hosting virtual summer camps if you’re still on the fence about in-person classes.

This year may be the time to introduce your child to a new sport. The 1757 Golf Club in Dulles has a robust summer camp program that cultivates youth golf talent no matter the skill level.

Professional trainers will guide kids (ages 6-17 years old) in mastering the fundamentals, from proper grip and balance to putting, chipping, and basic golf course etiquette.

If your child has shown interest in the sport, consider enrolling them in the Developmental Junior Academy. It’s a program that’s specifically designed to plant the foundational skills for a potential future career in golf.

If you sense your child has potential in drama and theater, you should consider signing them up for this year’s ACT UP! Summer Camp. The experience is a chance to unleash their talents in a number of areas, including public speaking, playwriting, costume design, improvisation, and so much more.

Regardless of your child’s degree of interest or talent, instructors will help bring out their “dramatic” side and open their eyes to skills they never thought they had. Like last year’s summer camp, Drama Kids International will also organize an online and in-person summer camp experience.

Loudoun County, through the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS), will host the annual Daze and Fest summer camps this year. The former is open to grades K-5, while the latter is available for grades 6-8.

Through the Daze and Fest summer camps, kids can take part in a wide variety of activities centered on science, music, cooking, sports, and environmental awareness. Interactions with other participants will help children hone their interpersonal skills.

Following Virginia’s three-phase reopening, PRCS will follow continued physical distancing and enhanced cleaning guidelines to ensure the safety of summer camp participants.

Pottery Summer Camp at The Clay and Metal Loft

Located in Leesburg’s Virginia Village Shopping Center, The Clay and Metal Loft is open this summer to kids who are interested in arts and crafts. There’s a variety of activities and workshops held from June to July. There’s even a manga and cartoon-themed camp!

Beyond the summer months, you can book private group classes for the family to enjoy all year round. You can also choose from a number of online classes, from acrylic pour painting to jewelry and clay classes.
